Seguin History:

Seguin is one of the oldest towns in Texas, founded just sixteen months after the Texas Revolution. The frontier settlement was one of the main locations of the Texas Rangers and home to the celebrated Captain Jack Hayes, perhaps the most famous Ranger.

Dr. John F. Parker also lived in Seguin. He worked on the different types of concrete construction using concrete made from local materials. Almost 100 structures — the courthouse, schools, churches, homes, etc. — was the largest concentration of early 19th-Century concrete buildings in the United States. About 19 of the buildings remain standing.

The use of concrete mostly ended with the railroad arriving in 1876, with less expensive lumber and equipment needed for brick-making. The town had five brick yards and eventually, the wooden buildings of downtown were replaced with brick.

On the towns centennial they celebrated by opening Max Starcke Park with a golf course, picnic area, and BBQ pits along a beautiful river drive with a dam that makes a beautiful waterfall.
